Phil Kelleher Homes Wins Top Honours at 2025 HIA South West Housing Awards

Dunsborough, WA — South West custom builder Phil Kelleher Homes has been recognised at the 2025 HIA South West Housing Awards, winning two of the region’s most prestigious accolades: Home of the Year for the Lomond residence in Yallingup Ridge, and Lightweight Housing for the Osmington off-grid retreat in Margaret River.

The awards celebrate the very best in innovation, sustainability, and craftsmanship across Western Australia’s South West region, shining a spotlight on builders whose projects set new benchmarks for residential construction.

Lomond:
Home of the Year

Sitting high atop Yallingup Ridge, Lomond redefines coastal living with an architecturally daring design that frames panoramic views of Geographe Bay. Its signature feature — a twisted, wave-inspired hyperbolic paraboloid roof — stands as an engineering feat, combining precision-crafted steel with custom-shaped timber rafters.

The home integrates smart automation, passive solar principles, and motorised awnings to achieve comfort and efficiency, while natural granite sourced from the region grounds the property in its environment. Every detail — from interlocking Colorbond cladding with concealed fixings to cantilevered eaves regulating seasonal sunlight — reflects a fearless blend of bold design, craftsmanship, and sustainability.

“Lomond was about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in residential construction while keeping it deeply connected to the South West landscape. Winning Home of the Year recognises not only the innovation behind the roofline and materials but also our commitment to delivering homes that are both striking and enduring.”

Osmington:
Lightweight Housing Award Winner

Set on a private 120-acre estate in Margaret River, Osmington demonstrates how off-grid living can be refined, functional, and beautiful. Built with rammed earth, timber framing, and no external painted surfaces, the home champions durability and low maintenance while achieving a 7.6-star NatHERS energy rating.

Innovations include the first WA residential application of CSR Barestone cladding — a fire-resistant, low-maintenance finish now featured as a CSR case study. Hydronic slab heating, passive solar orientation, and commercial-grade insulation further enhance performance.

Inside, the residence balances warmth and modernity with acoustic ceilings, custom cabinetry, and natural granite finishes. Externally, a north-facing courtyard integrates checker plate concrete, aluminium fencing and rammed earth, creating a layered and resilient outdoor space.

“Osmington shows that sustainability and style can coexist. It’s a project that demonstrates how innovative material choices and careful design can deliver both resilience and comfort in a rural setting.”
